- LANtastic for OS/2: Manual Install of OS/2 NDIS Drivers
-
- The LANtastic for OS/2 installation using 3rd party adapters and their
-
- OS/2 NDIS drivers does not always work properly. Errors regarding
-
- ?Files not found? and ?Cannot create C:\PROTOCOL.TMP? are some of the
-
- common symptoms. In cases like these, the easiest way to work around
-
- the errors is as follows:
-
-
-
- 1. Reinstall LANtastic for OS/2, choosing the Noderunner as your adapter.
-
- Let the installation run to completion, and ?Return to the OS/2 Desktop?.
-
- DO NOT shut down at this time.
-
-
-
- 2. Find the OS/2 NDIS driver on the 3rd party driver diskette, which
-
- should be supplied with your network adapter. The driver should have a
-
- filename extension ?.OS2?, (i.e., MYCARD.OS2) and is typically found in
-
- the MSLANMAN.OS2\DRIVERS\ETHERNET subdirectory of your 3rd-party driver
-
- diskette. It may also exist in an NDIS directory off the root directory
-
- of your driver diskette. Once you have located the NDIS driver, copy it
-
- to the \LANTASTI\OS2 subdirectory.
-
-
-
- NOTE : If you do not have a driver diskette, or if the files on your driver
-
- diskette are not current, contact your ethernet card vendor for the most
-
- current OS/2 NDIS driver version. This will typically be available via BBS,
-
- FTP, or other online service, where you can download a self-extracting .EXE or
-
- .ZIP file that, when expanded, becomes your new driver diskette.
-
-
-
- 3. With the OS/2 editor (i.e., E.EXE or EPM.EXE), open the sample
-
- PROTOCOL.INI or .ORG file on the driver diskette. This file will
-
- typically be found in the same subdirectory the NDIS driver resides in.
-
- Edit/Copy the sample MAC section in this file. A MAC section will look
-
- something like:
-
-
-
-
-
-
-
- [MYCARD_NIF]
-
-
-
- DRIVERNAME = MYCARD$
-
-
-
- INTERRUPT = 10

-
-
-
- IOBASE = 0x300
-
-
-
- While still in the OS/2 editor, open the \LANTASTI\OS2\PROTOCOL.INI file and
-
- edit/paste the sample MAC section to the bottom of the file. Once pasted,
-
- make changes, as needed, to match any IRQ, IOBASE, or RAMBASE settings to the
-
- network card?s actual settings.
-
-
-
- 4. Still in the \LANTASTI\OS2\PROTOCOL.INI file, go to the [AI-NDIS_NIF]
-
- section. Change the ?BINDINGS =? to match the bracketed label for the
-
- pasted MAC section.
-
-
-
- For example:
-
-
-
- [AI-NDIS_NIF]
-
-
-
- DRIVERNAME = AINDIS$
-
-
-
- BINDINGS = MYCARD_NIF <--Here
-
-
-
- etc...
-
-
-
- NOTE : If you have specified SMB client support during the Custom
-
- Installation, also change the [NETBEUI_NIF] section ?BINDINGS =? to match
-
- the bracketed label for the pasted MAC section.
-
-
-
- For example:
-
-
-
- [NETBEUI_NIF]
-
-
-
- DRIVERNAME = NETBEUI$
-
-
-
- BINDINGS = ,MYCARD_NIF <--The space and comma are important!
-
-
-
- 5. Edit the CONFIG.SYS file and find the LANtastic for OS/2 section (which
-
- should be near the end of the file). Change
-
- DEVICE=C:\LANTASTI\OS2\AEXNDIS.OS2 to the name of your NDIS driver, which
-
- you copied over to \LANTASTI\OS2 in step 2.
-
-
-
- For example:
-
-
-
- DEVICE=C:\LANTASTI\OS2\MYCARD.OS2
-
-
-
- Save the CONFIG.SYS file, shutdown and reboot. When the OS/2 desktop comes
-
- up, your Lantastic for OS/2 network should be up and running. Check it by
-
- opening an OS/2 command line window and type in the command:
-
-
-
- NET SHOW
-
-
-
- You should see that Lantastic is now loaded and operational. That?s it!
